Making The Campus Environment Friendly

By Amir Farid

Our home is warm, far from the North Pole to the end of the South Pole. Since the past century, the global average surface temperature has increased by more than 0.9 degrees Celsius and even much more sensitive polar regions.

The impacts of these rising temperatures are not waiting for some far-flung future- the effects of global warming are appearing even so much clearer in this current time.

The heat in the aether is melting glaciers and sea ice, shifting precipitation patterns, and setting animals on the move.

Many people think of global warming and climate change as synonyms, but scientists prefer to use ‘climate change’ when describing the complex shifts now affecting our planet’s weather and climate systems. Climate change encompasses not only rising average temperatures but also extreme weather events, shifting wildlife populations and habitats, rising sea levels, and a range of other impacts. All of these changes are emerging as humans continue to add heat-trapping greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.

The Environment Division of The Good Society aims to curb the matter on a smaller scale; campus level. We focus on on-campus environment issues such as recycling, river cleaning, and food garden establishment. We aim to construct a community of people who are concerned about the current environmental situation, issues also the effects and repercussions toward it.

We believe it is easier to achieve a better campus environment as the society of the campus is well educated, understands, and gives attention to what happens around them in the matter of environment.

Upholding the good values in every plan of action under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by the United Nations, we have planned to establish a food garden that consists of herbs, edible plantations, and a balanced ecosystem through the permaculture agricultural system. The SDGs that are related to the project such as ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities, ‘Climate Change’, and ‘Good Health and Wellbeing’.

We look forward to strategic partnership and collaboration with other environment-concern organizations. This ensures the project is easier to cater to and well-organized.

In conclusion, we hope to make the campus environment friendly. We will give the best of our effort to preserve nature, perform maintenance on the landscape, and spread awareness among the students. Toward a green campus!
