Our Story

The Good Society was originally a streaming project called Covid-19 Diary. Before that, it was mainly a rough idea on how a third-sector (or third-force) student-driven movement should be established in line with the SDG initiatives by the United Nations. The idea is also to compliment the student unionism, modelled over several Student Union models in the UK.

After the announcement of the first MCO on 18th March 2020, founder Hafeez Zainal believe that pandemic that struck the country and world are faced by people of different circumstances.

Ideally, the slogan “We are in this together” should mean that everyone is facing the same catastrophe and should be seen publicly and as a beacon of hope for many, especially students stranded on campus, to cater to mental health problems.

Afterwards, after the YouTube channel Revealing the Unheard was celebrated by many, Covid-19 Diary produced its very own talkshows, Covid-19 Diary Special Edition, which air its first pilot episode on Instagram and afterwards Facebook and Youtube with Aiman Azlan, a renowned youth motivator, talking about being a productive muslim, hosted by the founder himself. Afterwards, more episodes were aired, inviting notable individuals like YB Dr Maszlee Malik, PU Azman and many more.

The news broadcasting channel The Star also feature Covid-19 Diary initiative  in an interview with the founder, online.

Later, more channels were produced by our studio, Live! The Telekung Talkshow, an all-girls talk shows which star females and issues pertaining to them. Then, a Ramadan series called A Plate of Moreh, having its very own theme song and music video aired during Ramadan. There is also an online Friday Sermon and a couple of online Tadarus.

Seeing the success of the project even though start from zero-resource to many supports from various groups, the team decided to expand the social movement.

They also participated in the international campaign of Stop Annexation on Palestine and caught the attention of established NGOs like Aqsa Syarif, Cakna Palestin and Friends of Palestine.

Then , the team also dedicate in promoting International Islamic University Malaysia called I AM IIUM, and A Virtual Campus Tour.

Many more welfare-based projects were done like Start A Conversation, a mental heath advocacy and Donate Why Accumulate focusing on donating formal wear for new-intake students.

The Good Society unofficially established its business profile on 1st October 2020. It was co-founded with brother Zhafir Amin, and supported by many individuals.

A website was built earlier on, followed by social media accounts of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok. The Revealing the Unheard YouTube channel was changed to Good Society Pictures, which serve as the media production house of the organization.

The first PRO-TEM Committee was established, and The Good Society was structured into two leadership parts: 1. Management, which consist of President, Chief Strategist (now Deputy President), Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations and Creative Director and 2. Operations, which have 7 VPs, VP Women, VP Education, VP Environment, VP Community & Diversity, VP Welfare, VP Technology and VP Sports & Activities.

The Good Society IIUM (Gombak Chapter) inaugurally become an official student club on  22nd October 2021, currently registered under Student Affairs and Development Division (STADD) under the supervision of Sejahtera Centre for Sustainability and Humanity.

Afterwards, it is being recognized as a proactive and progressive student movement and was offered to organize a program on World Futures Day together with Sejahtera Centre for Sustainability and Humanity, International Islamic University Malaysia, in collaboration with Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and UNESCO.

The students who registered as The Good Society members are 106 in total.

The Good Society have managed to train 42 talents who can now become emcee, host, moderator or speakers.

1 project become an official Student-Led IIUM Flagship project.

They have managed to pitch for 2 projects that are given seed funds for start-up.

The Political Action Committee of The Good Society called Grassroots Democrats also had organized 24 students to run for offices in campus election.

On 12th January 2022, The Good Society Malaysia, named in Malay as Pertubuhan Masyarakat Madani Malaysia (MADANI) is registered as Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), governed by The Registry of Societies (ROS) or Jabatan Pendaftaran Pertubuhan Malaysia (JPPM).
