It's Her Fest!

The Women Rep of IIUMSU alongside with Gender Equity of The Good Society and Hewi Harmoni are thrilled to invite you to It’s Her Festival as we celebrate the strength, resilience and the beauty of women everywhere.

We embark on a profound mission to ignite the spirit of women’s empowerment. This festival isn’t just a gathering. It’s a platform dedicated to fostering solidarity among individuals committed to achieving gender equity.

Talknita 3rd Series: Redefining Intimacy, Redesigning Matrimony

Marriage is considered one of the most sacred bonds between individuals, and yet it is unfortunately not immune to the harrowing spectre of sexual violence within its confines.

Hence, Empowher as the Women Division of The Good Society IIUM, cordially invites you to join the 3rd edition of our Talknita Series where we invite esteemed guests; Mrs Farihah Meor and Dr Mazlena to explore the multifaceted dimensions of marital rape culture 🗣️

 

Menstrual Awareness Campaign: Normalise Period, Break the Sigma

Date: 1st June 2023

On the 1st of June 2023, EmpowHer, in collaboration with the Secretariat of Psychology (PSYCSTA) IIUM and the Secretariat of Fiqh & Usul Fiqh (SOFI) IIUM came together to organise a Menstrual Awareness Campaign that was successfully held at HS Square, IIUM. ✨

The program was filled with various activities such as a painting booth by EmpowHer and information-sharing booths on the fiqh and psychological effects of menstruation by SOFI IIUM and PSYCSTA IIUM. We also got Peduli Merah to advocate for period poverty and Dr Fatimah Al-Attas as a guest speaker to talk about menstrual awareness. Not to forget, we also invited Suci Cup and Enya Women to promote the use of menstrual cups and organic menstrual pads.

Talk on Menstrual Awareness

Menstruation🩸, a natural biological process experienced by half of the world’s population, has long been shrouded in secrecy, shame, and stigma. Menstrual stigma has held women back for far too long, limiting their access to education, healthcare, and opportunities. It’s time to rewrite the narrative and empower women by breaking the chains of menstrual stigma.

Thus, EmpowHer in collaboration with the Secretariat of Psychology IIUM and the Secretariat of Fiqh & Usul Fiqh IIUM, cordially invites you to come and join our Menstrual Awareness Campaign where we have amazing guests; Dr. Fatimah Al-Attas and Peduli Merah joining us in our effort to break the menstrual stigma. Plus, we are also thrilled to announce that Suci Cup and Enya Women will also be joining us to promote various menstrual products at affordable prices. 🙌🏻

Talknita 2nd Series: A Functional Seat at the Table

Date: 30th July 2022

Although organisations have a responsibility for creating better policies and opportunities for women, it is undeniable that support and encouragement for women to step forward is fundamental. Similar to the IIUM community, there is a breathtaking number of promising young women who are aspiring leaders who would benefit greatly from such encouragement.

In order to accommodate said support, Talknita 2nd Series in the form of a leadership conference, aimed to feature prominent women leaders who are moving the needle on gender parity to share their insights on leadership matters and their experiences.

 

Pretty Tough!
Self-Defense Kit

EmpowHer understands and advocates for the priority of every woman on campus to be able to defend herself in times of danger, and this is where Pretty Tough comes in our fundraising project targeted to provide 50 female students on IIUM with a defense kit. In May 2022, EmpowHer successfully managed to raise a total fund of RM1603 within a month period. 

Talknita 1st Series: Rape Culture - Between Myth and Reality

Date: 20 November 2021

With the aim of achieving the 16th SDG, which is peace, justice and strong institution, this talk has been conducted to address rape culture that is prevalent in our community and is also conducted to show solidarity with Ain Husniza as she exposes rape culture in her school. This initiative will be a pioneer talk series for a series of TalkNita that discusses women issues in society.

WaniTayang 2nd Series: Pad Man

Due to the need to advocate for period poverty, a movie that critically touches on the issue titled Pad Man, was screened for the second series. As an Indian man realizes the extent to which women are affected by their menses, he sets out to create a sanitary pad machine and to provide inexpensive sanitary pads to the women of rural India. Discussions and game sessions were conducted after the movie screening!
